Tyler Matjeka was born a healthy baby girl. But at the age of twelve, she caught a rare virus that damaged her autonomic nervous system. The damage to her autonomic nervous system affected seven organs - four of those organs were removed.
Tyler has almost lost her life five times due to her rare illness, which has yet to receive an "official" name from the Mayo Clinic where she was first diagnosed and where she continues to receive medical care. She is the fourth patient in the world diagnosed with her medical condition.
If living every day with a rare illness wasn't hard enough, at the age of twenty-eight, the unthinkable happened. Tyler lost her dad in an airplane crash.
In 2007, the Lord called Tyler to start a ministry to share how He had carried her through all the hard times in her life. Immediately after losing her dad in the airplane crash, God said, "Now is the time to begin sharing these messages of hope with the world."
Some of her favorite messages of hope include:
- God will never give you more than you can handle, as He promises in the Bible. (See 1 Corinthians 10:13)
- God brings blessings out of every situation. Tyler thanks the Lord for all the trying times with her health, as they gave her extra time with her family - especially with her father - that she wouldn't have had otherwise.
- Never give up. Tyler continues to battle with health issues on a daily basis, but knows that God has reasons until He brings her to the solutions.
Tyler enjoys sharing her testimony publicly, and is currently writing her first book, an autobiography, to release in 2013. She hopes to follow with many more books of hope and encouragement. (See www.tylermatjeka.net)
Tyler holds a Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, and is currently working on earning her Master's Degree in Counseling; and both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Theology. She is also an Ambassador for World Vision, and an e-Ambassador for the Make-A-Wish foundation.
Through Daddy's Girl Ministries, Tyler hopes that others will see the close relationship she has with her Heavenly Father, and they too will seek Him. She says she would not have made it this far in life without God, and longs for everyone to have this same relationship with Him.
Tyler says, "God saved my life spiritually and physically, and I want to share the good news with everyone! I want you to be able to go through life and have a daily relationship with Jesus. I want Him to be there for you in the good times as well as the bad. Most importantly, I want you to know with certainty that when your time is up on earth, you will spend eternity in heaven with Jesus and all His children who have gone before us."
